Gosh, I can’t believe two weeks have gone by AGAIN. And now we’re into my birthday month—yay!!

That also means we’re 8 months into the year & almost halfway through our financial year in New Zealand.

I don’t know about you, but that time has just flown by for me.

And I am pleased to say that this year has been the best year yet for me, getting my #3 Leadership Ability right.

What is that you ask? It’s Prediction.

BUSINESS TOOLS & REAL-LIFE LESSONS

Good People Turning Bad…

For the first time in a couple of years, I am spot on with my predictions for the business halfway through the year.

I am a fast speaker but a slow learner. It took me two years to realise that I wasn’t superwoman & couldn’t do 7-8 rocks each quarter. Every quarter, I would set 7-8 rocks for myself (not including the rocks for others in the team) & achieve 3 or 4 of them.

I finally got it – my capacity is only 3-4 rocks each quarter. 😊

It’s taken me almost as long to learn to be realistic in my revenue & profit predictions.

I am naturally a Visionary, so I am always super optimistic about what we can achieve. And I don’t get too worried if we don’t achieve it.

But that’s not good for the business!

Overestimating your Revenue can have serious implications for the business, just as underestimating can.

That’s why Prediction is one of the 5 Leadership Abilities we teach our EOS businesses to help them break through when they hit the ceiling.

You can start to see why reviewing your results every 90 days is important – it gives you a chance to learn. And with a bit of luck, you will learn a bit more quickly than me!

So, did I adjust the business down to go backwards? After all, we are in a recession, right? 

Absolutely not! 

I just realised that 45% growth probably wasn’t realistic & so I adjusted it for these last two quarters to be 35%… And we came in at 36%, so that’s pretty good.  

I have also nailed all my rocks each quarter because I only set 4 for me. 

PS: Please know that Visionaries don’t usually get rocks, but although I am naturally a Visionary, I do have very high Integrator scores, so I know I can do at least 3 each quarter if they’re right-sized. 

Now, those results are just for our EOS business. We’ve just launched our Fractional Integrator Business, Integrated Executives, and it looks like that, too, will reach our predictions for the next quarter. 

Our other business seems to be getting there too. 

I think I’m getting good at this. 😊  

You will also see that all my EOS clients are having good years, so it’s great to see that EOS works.

And that’s your people

I have been listening to the People book over & over & over on Audible because I just love the examples in it of how to build an intentional culture. 

It has reignited my passion for People & Culture. 

Which is why I love the main article shared this week that is written by Jim Coyle. It tells the story of “Ashley” & how she was almost fired but turned into a shining star of an employee. 

It spoke to me because I have been using one of our EOS tools, The People Analyzer, a lot with clients recently, maybe because of my focus on Intentional Culture. 

What Jim shares in his article is what I see in many of our businesses, as well as our EOS client’s businesses.  

Sometimes, the wrong person isn’t the wrong person at all. They’re just a good person in a bad system, which makes them appear to be the wrong person. 

Imagine you think you’re having a people issue, but when you run the People Analyzer, you realise that the system, or even you as the leader, are actually the problem. 

That’s what I love about the People Analyzer.  

When you think you have a wrong person, run the People Analyzer. 

Remember that a ‘+/-‘ is your responsibility as the Leader & Manager to get back up to a +. 

And are they only a ‘+/-‘ because they’re in a terrible system, or are they in the wrong seat & struggling (do they truly GWC it?) or is it that you haven’t given them the time & resources that they need. 

There are so many reasons why a person might have a +/- & it’s not always about them. 

Answer it honestly, and you might see that there’s something you need to do to get that person back to being a superstar. 

It’s only true ‘-‘ in any of the values, which means you have a square peg in a round hole from a cultural perspective. 

We’ve run this tool several times over the last couple of months with various clients & the results have rarely been a truly wrong person.

How do you help people? 

I love to help people be the leaders they want to be. Whether you’re a senior corporate, own your own business, or are an entrepreneur.

Why did you get into what you are doing? 

Back when I was in a corporate leadership role, I observed how colleagues would open up to me about their professional challenges. These were people others would see as success stories.

Sadly, many were very unhappy in their roles. I started down the post-grad psychology route and realised my passion was helping people move forward, more than healing the past.

I wanted to help people in the business world, a world I understood first-hand. I wanted to help them discover and implement solutions in a way that leveraged their strengths and values while delivering measurable business results because we feel happier when we’re being our true selves. I’ve long been a champion of authentic leadership. I achieved my formal executive & leadership coaching qualifications via a 2 year US coaching program.

What do you love about it?

I love results and get most excited seeing my clients achieve their desired outcomes. I see them make the changes and implement the leadership strategies that transform their results, and the cherry on top is that they do so in a way that reflects who they are. I’m not a fan of people trying to ‘square peg/round hole’ themselves or following a one-dimensional leadership doctrine. We are not one size fits all. Being an authentic leader and achieving outstanding business results are NOT mutually exclusive.

What do you do in your spare time, pursuing other passions? 

My passions are exercise via resistance training, strength yoga, and daily walks, which are all the more enjoyable when it involves catching up with a friend. I love French bubbles and fine wines, with a ‘dirty little secret’ being my love of package chips with a glass of chardonnay on ‘hump’ day. I adore my family, my fur children, and my friends.

Tell us something that very few people know about you. 

What I’m very open about sharing is that I’m freshly out the other side of 13 months of active treatment for breast cancer. I created 4 tenets to get through this major life challenge:

  1. Feel no shame – about the changes to my body to my life during this time.
  2. Say yes to everything – support from my medical team, family, friends, clinical support services.
  3. Find the joy – in a crappy situation, find and follow the light.
  4. Celebrate Milestones – bringing me one step closer to being cancer-free, and also celebrations are fun!

These tenets also hold true for everyday life. I’m very happy and grateful to be alive. I certainly am not going to put energy into sweating the small stuff, crying over spilt milk, holding onto negativity or engaging with people or situations where I’m not treated with respect and kindness. Guess what?! We don’t need to go through a major health challenge to live to this!
